Bilfinger Salamis UK‘s Architectural Department were tasked to upgrade the existing sickbay onboard an offshore asset.
The original Sickbay required refurbishment by upgrading all fitted furniture, flooring and wall panelling.
The upgraded Sickbay was fitted with bespoke fire rated furniture specifically designed for medical facilities. The design and material finish incorporated the following elements:
- Infection Control – Using materials which minimise the risk of cross contamination
- Safety – Fitted furniture constructed from F/R fire retardant high pressure laminate
- Storage Solutions – Space saving modular storage systems ideally suited for the management and storage of consumables and equipment, easily accessible providing ease of access for cleaning
- Security – Lockable cupboards and drawers
Working around the existing ceiling system layout, a range of lockable base, wall and tall units were installed incorporating integrated pull out trays to assist with organising an inventory of items, along with
a dedicated workstation area, all finished in white matt laminate door and drawer fronts. Non-porous solid surface worktops with an integrated moulded sink, drainer and upstand provide an easy
cleanable and hygienic finish. Hygiene panels were fitted to the perimeter walls and above the work surfaces, with new electrical data trunking system supplied. The upgraded Sickbay was completed with
new marine rated vinyl flooring.
The finished result provided an aesthetically enhanced and practical solution, white fitted units and white surfaces were contrasted with a vibrant green hygienic wall cladding creating a bright and inviting
space where no natural lighting is available whilst ensuring the ergonomics and design of the sickbay is also functional and practical catering for the needs of a medical facility.
