Bilfinger‘s Scaffold Portal digitises the scaffold inventory and management process, introducing significant process improvements, giving full transparency of activities onsite and providing supervisory personnel digital twin access to all associated documentation.
Historically scaffold management has been predominantly paper-based, with registers subject to human error or wilful neglect, leading to site tonnage anomalies. Scaffold registers and associated paperwork in PDF format are then stored to meet regulatory requirements. Our engineers identified a requirement for a simple and effective method of managing scaffold inventory on-site, that can be monitored remotely, and remain compliant with local regulatory requirements.
Developed by Bilfinger Salamis UK as a bespoke digital platform for the energy market, the Scaffold Portal was created with our technical authorities, scaffold design team, engineers, and in-house digitalisation team, ensuring compliance with current regulations and industry best practice.

With all scaffold information held centrally, the platform provides all stakeholders with a complete real-time overview of scaffold activities and metrics
The Bilfinger Scaffold Portal can be accessed on a desktop or EX-rated mobile device, and holds all information, both live and cached, automatically updating when in wifi or 4G connected areas. With all scaffold information held centrally, the platform provides all stakeholders with a complete real-time overview of scaffold activities and associated metrics.
Personnel can also take pictures of scaffolds and save these to the tag ID. Reports are created using Microsoft Power BI, providing clear, live analytical dashboards.
Bilfinger's Scaffold Portal provides an excellent auditable trail for all inspections undertaken, along with a secure user base. It is ideal for linking offshore operations to onshore management, with clear visibility on all scaffolds being erected in live time on multiple sites, whilst reducing the need for email traffic.
Having the capability to incorporate ladder inspection with the scaffold inspection is means both registers are integrated intuitively and efficiently without complication. Additionally, the capability to raise scaffold requests with pre-agreed dates, enabling the app to create a proposed project timeline, is a useful attribute in planning any project, or turnaround.
We have found that the app can be used offline with no fuss, and when reconnected to WiFi it syncs the device with the cloud effortlessly, leaving a paperwork free environment.
There is great community support from the onshore support team, and I think having the app community forum for upgrade suggestions from users is a very professional touch.
The Scaffold Portal brings scaffold inspection into the 21st Century.
