Bilfinger Salamis supported the decommissioning of the Murchison asset as a supplier of architectural, asbestos, insulation, painting, rope access, scaffolding and engineering services.
The initial engineering down to ‘lighthouse’ mode in preparation for heavy lift included a NORM removal programme and chemical flushing of associated pipework.
A comprehensive asbestos management programme included removal of cladding, exhaust tips, insulation and Bestobell seals.
Additional scopes included permit office relocation, caisson shim installation, removal of conductor clamps, cable pulling, installation of debris netting, and essential ongoing fabric maintenance.
This was followed by a three-month campaign to prepare the topside structure ready for heavy lift including: further asbestos removal, scaffolding, ERT, flame cutting and general labouring.
All works were completed on time and within budget.
